I often have Linkinus running for days at a time, and I see a problem whenever it has run in the background for a prolonged time in the background (Hours).

When you switch back to Linkinus, it locks up for 5-10 seconds. Also, when you then try to select other channels, this lock repeats until you've been through them all. I don't have logging activated, so that can't be it. It might be related to history, but I haven't verified this yet.

Whenever I join a channel that wasn't previously in my channels list, it gets added to an auto-join list. So, when I connect to the same server again later, it automatically joins that newly added channel.

I realize that I can click "Edit" on the server and remove it from the list; but this gets annoying. There should be an option to disable this.

Thanks

I have my notices set to open in their own query so that I can read them later in the event that I wasn't around when they were sent.

However this is very annoying when I'm first connecting to a server. I get a whole bunch of notices from the server and from NickServ.

I know that I can just ignore NickServ, but what if it has something important to tell me?

It'd be great if such notices could remain in the console window during the initial connection process.

For the past month or so I've been having a problem getting Linkinus to stay connected. Randomly the Linkinus server console will show "An error occurred" and I will be disconnected from the server (in my case, Freenode). I have to manually reconnect and then rejoin all my channels. This is incredibly frustrating because it could happen anywhere from one to a dozen times a day. I constantly have to check Linkinus to make sure I'm indeed still connected.

In addition, from time to time I'm disconnected from the server, but Linkinus still thinks I'm connected (the only way I notice is when I go into one of my channels and see there has been no channel activity at all over the past few hours). In this case I have to quit and reconnect just the same.

Today, I've completely removed Linkinus (and Linkinus Agent) from my system (including all preferences, caches, application support files, and even logs). Restarted my system, and then downloaded and installed a fresh vanilla copy of Linkinus. The problem still occurred after only about half an hour of being connected to the server.

The following is what my OS X console showed when the disconnect occurred in Linkinus:

12/13/09 4:46:03 PM	Linkinus Agent[364]	Disconnect with error Error Domain=NSPOSIXErrorDomain Code=60 "(null)"
12/13/09 4:46:03 PM	[0x0-0x2d02d].com.conceitedsoftware.Linkinus[358]	2009-12-13 16:46:03.957 Linkinus Agent[364:903] Disconnect with error Error Domain=NSPOSIXErrorDomain Code=60 "(null)"

Is there anything I can do to stop these disconnects from happening all the time and get Linkinus back to the way it used to be?

Thanks.

How about adding some weight related stuff in the application.. I haven't tried it out myself, and I just looked at screenshots, but I know from my girlfriend that weight is what really matters..

Maybe you could also do some fitness/workout/exercise/sports related stuff, like saying that if one went exercising on this and that date, you are allowed to eat 500 more kcals. Coupled with the calender, you can also get an overview of how often you exercise. This might be correlated on a weight diagram, where you can track dates, exercise days and weight in one figure.

When someone invites someone else to a channel, I just get that notice in the console window, like: <servername> <nick> invited <invitee> to the channel
So I have no idea which channel it's talking about.

The invite notices should be in the respective channel, like all clients do.

So if the invite is to channel #linkinus, I should see that notice in the #linkinus window.

Thank you

Hello,

I just use the Simplified style, so I don't know if this problem is style-related or if it affects all other styles.

This is how it turns after a while (I'm not sure when it happens and why):

And this is the correct way (which I get after re-applying the style):

It's quite annoying :/
Any ideas?

Thank you!

PS: I'm running 2.1.2

I have linkinus already registered and activated, there is no need to connect to the activation server over and over! This is crap, what is going on. This product is useless this way.

I've submitted a bunch of bug reports today using the standard form. I know that it's not necessary from Conceited's perspective to duplicate all these in the forum, but in my personal experience the vast majority of bug reports here get sucked into some kind of black hole, so i thought it would be useful to the users at least if these are posted somewhere so other people know about them and can discuss them:

Ticket #1003: topic dates are incorrect

Linkinus does not correctly display the date/time topics were set on Freenode (not sure about other networks?). Instead it displays all topics on all channels as having been set in December 1969.

Ticket #1004: please add support for showing host names on join/part/quit

Linkinus doesn't appear to have the ability to show host names in join/part/quit messages in the channel log. This has been discussed in the forum before (in fact i recall there was a bit of backlash even), but it's been 6 months and still no word, so i thought i'd submit something of my own. I'm sure it must be a duplicate but who knows i guess.

Ticket #1005: graphical whois screen displays no information on Freenode

This is related to a previous ticket i'd submitted — # 652 — to request that an option be given to disable the graphical whois screen (the one that appears when you right-click and whois). I think the entire concept of this screen is incredibly flawed, because it's so disruptive and cumbersome, but if we're not going to be able to get rid of it i think it should at least display the information it's meant to. On Freenode (not sure about other networks) it does not do this — most of the fields are blank.

Ticket #1006: Linkinus should switch to console when other windows are closed

Minor one: Linkinus doesn't automatically switch back to the console when other windows are closed, it switches to an empty window where you can't do anything else without choosing the console window yourself.

Ticket #1007: tab-closure terminology is confusing and non-standard

Using the term 'Delete' to refer to closing tabs is a huge usability issue, i think. These references should be changed to 'Close'.

Hi everyone,

first of all, nice piece of software you put together.

But I do have a problem using it. I'm using blowfish encryption on some channels in mIRC and can't seem to get it to work.

Do I get it right that using the channel information is the right way to enter a encryptin key? If so, I only see a checkbox "encrypt" and typing the key I normally use in that channel does not decrypt the text. So my first question is:

Is the "encrypt" field the right place to enter a blowfish key? Or is there any other type of encryption used?

Then second, I could not join a specific channel, since the password hat special characters like ³² in it. I switched the connection to latin2 and it worked. But the blowfish encryption might have the same problem, because those characters appear there two, plus the ⎜ character which has many encodings as I found out. I tried like 8 of them...(all that exist) but it is still not decrypting right. So the second question obviosly is:

Do I have to set the encryption encoding somewhere? Or does it use the one of the connection?

Kind regards
Funkster

Alright, seriously, when are we going to put Notices back in the current active chat window. For every single other IRC client in existence when you get a notice it appears in your current active chat. No matter who sends it. Now I know there's an option to send it to the console.. and I know if you don't toggle that on it sends it to a query... this worked fine in 1.X when you didn't want it in the console, but wanted it in your active chat.

I'm just so tired of having to a) Switch to my console which I turned off from the windows that get selected when I Command+down/up.. which I STILL want on. or b) Moving down to one of 50 queries I have open because of people sending me notices.

All I want to do.. is have notices show up in my current active chat.. just like in 1.X.. just like in every single other IRC client in existence.

(Mainly cuz every single bot sends notices when you use private commands...)

I can't figure out any pattern to the way Linkinus (2.1) maintains its rich logs. It's all completely arbitrary. Sessions are split into separate files for absolutely no reason, it doesn't go by time of day or by how long the connection was maintained, it's just random.

Also, sometimes it just... forgets. Like it doesn't keep the logs at all for a while:

It would be nice to have a suite of Healthnut apps (one for the pc, one for the iPhone) that allow syncing to a central server. That way any where I go I can add items to the list.

I'm running Linkinus 2.1/21621 on 10.5.8. All attempts to dcc chat on a network have failed. However, colloquy does it just fine. I'd rather not have to switch every time I have to dcc chat. Can someone else try it out to see if it's a bug or it's just me. If the latter, can you give me some hints?

Hello,

you will have your reasons for putting in a log viewer again, but I'd very much like to know how I'm able to convert those 1.x lnkData files into plain text without exporting every single one.

Also I think you should reconsider not having them saved as .txt files in 2.x because logs tied to an application are very inconvenient.

Thanks!

So, looking at my not-even-100-day old, 2.8GB "~/Library/Application Support/Linkinus 2/Logs.lnk2Log" logs file with MesaSQLite, I see, among other things:

6 ZLOGNETWORK records
298 ZLOGCHAT records
2100 ZLOGSESSION records
1523541 ZLOGLINE records (that I can't even list, because the table is way too big)

Now, look at all the stuff that's stored for each ZLOGLINE record:
http://gyazo.com/f6cee647c70a22f14da407ec6349f079.png

For example, this 41 character line of text: "[12:39] <Cowboy> looks like 1.5m records" is stored in the DB as 302 chars of binary data, plus a 59-character GUID and a few other indices.

Now, I don't know about you, but while it's nice to view logs all fancy-like, usually all I want to do is search through them.. and having over 361 chars (or *8* times as much data as is really necessary) stored in this complex data structure, crashing Linkinus every time I try to search, is not really helping me much.

Not to mention that for 1.5 million lines, all this extra overhead really adds up, and I've got a not-insubstantial chunk of my hard drive eaten up by a file that I can neither split nor incrementally backup.

I'm personally all for simple, plain-text logs.. but I understand how fancy-looking logs can be cool too. Still, after just a few months, I'm stuck with a logging system that is almost completely unusable, which is just no good.

I think it's time for a better solution!

- Ben

Ever since Linkinus v2.0, it randomly hangs at least once every minute, it hangs for anywhere from 5 to 30+ seconds. This make it impossible to do anything during the freeze. I have submitted a bug report, and it is coming to a point where I can use this client anymore. I am so fed up with it.

During the freeze it uses up any free processing power it can get its hands on. The processing hanging is Linkinus Agent. This happens on a PPC mac and an Intel mac.

It seems to get worse everyday.

Bugs:
• Would it be possible to only parse smileys, and show an image, whenever the smiley written has spaces on both sides? My name is David, so whenever someone write to me on IRC, they start out with writing "David: blah blah" and, the "d:" and the end of my name is being parsed into a smiley all the time!

• Links should be clickable, even though they don't have spaces on both sides. Many channels posts links surrounded by < and > (Like <http://linkinus.com> ), and it is unclickable:

Requests:
• The option for putting NickServ messages under the server connection, or just the ability to ignore them when starting Linkinus.

• Global command for bringing the application to the front, while showing the first chatroom in the list, that has unread messages. The command should of course be costumizeable.

• Being able to reorganize servers in the list, ie. move them up and down.
