Ever since Linkinus v2.0, it randomly hangs at least once every minute, it hangs for anywhere from 5 to 30+ seconds. This make it impossible to do anything during the freeze. I have submitted a bug report, and it is coming to a point where I can use this client anymore. I am so fed up with it.

During the freeze it uses up any free processing power it can get its hands on. The processing hanging is Linkinus Agent. This happens on a PPC mac and an Intel mac.

It seems to get worse everyday.

Must admit, I've had hanging too. Probably once a day it'll hang for 30-40 second or so.

I get hangs too, but not as long as 30 seconds (usually more like 3 to 5). It happens most when i'm typing several lines in a row. Pretty serious issue. :/

How large is the scrollback eXodusSquared? Linkinus Preferences -> General.

Could you try lowering this setting and see whether it helps?

I changed my setting to 200 and it is still freezing.

When it does, could you take a sample using the activity monitor and submit it using "Help -> Report a Bug", please?

Okeanos, I already have. Even before I created this thread.

  12. Mine hangs with the beach ball practically every time I focus the app. It's pretty ridiculous. :(

Linkinus freezes up completely everytime I join or part a channel, or whenever I receive a new private message.

Freezes very often for me. At first I had the scrollback set to 5000, but I've since put it at 200. It still freezes.

Also, the log viewer hangs EVERY TIME I click a channel in the list.

I shouldn't have bought this. Shoulda stuck with 1.0 or just used http://www.mibbit.com

  15. Most freezes we have identified so far were caused by third party input managers that Apple deprecated a long time ago. They can't be used anymore with Snow Leopard though, so chances are your hangs will be gone there.

If they're not caused by IMs, then please use the "report a bug" feature and attach a sample of the process when hanging so we can track it down!

Still freezes for about 45 seconds every few minutes. I'm running Snow Leopard with v2.0.2

Prometh, please use the proper channels i.e. the support page for that.

I can kind of understand prometh's frustration. This is still happening to me with 2.0.2+10.6.1, just as i'd described before (both here and in a bug report), when i type several lines in a row. I will say that it seems to be happening much less frequently — to the point where i can't immediately reproduce it on command — but it definitely still happens all the time.

Also, i have no Input Manager or SIMBL hacks installed (and never have).

Linkinus won't let me use the 'report a bug' feature (it just says 'we're very sorry for the inconvenience' and then does nothing), but here's what i was going to submit with it:

    .

As requested in this thread — http://conceitedsoftware.com/forums/topic/linkinus-hangfreeze — here is a sample i took of Linkinus as it was locking up. In order to reproduce this, i opened a query tab with a friend and rapidly sent him gibberish messages like the following:

23:12:33 <ohkine> aldksfj askdjf sakljdf kasdfj aslkd fkasjd fksadj fkas df askdfjasd
    23:12:35 <ohkine> fasdf klajsdfkl aslkdf jkasdj fjasdfjkls;df js;djfsdf
    23:12:38 <ohkine> kasdjfl;jas;dfj kasdf
    23:12:47 <ohkine> askdjf alskdjf asdf;asj fsafjsadf asldfj asdjf ajsdfjl;asdjfljsdkfjsadf

On that last line, about mid-way through, Linkinus locked up for maybe 5 or 6 seconds, and i very quickly switched back to Activity Monitor to take the following sample:

Sampling process 9319 for 1 seconds with 1 millisecond of run time between samples
    Sampling completed, processing symbols...

Could you give a little more information about your settings?

Scrollback, embedded media activated, style in use?

    • Scrollback is currently 500, but when it was happening on Leopard i'd had it set it to 200 and experienced the same exact problem (no better nor worse than 500)
    • embedded media always disabled
    • style in use is currently a modification of discreet, but it happens with other styles
    • colourise nicknames always disabled
    • enable logs and enable history both enabled
    • emoticons always disabled
    • transparency effects always disabled, IRC colours always disabled
    • flood protection on 768 bytes / 15 seconds but happens with other settings
    • no extra plug-ins installed
    • connected to only one network, on only two channels (~70 users on one [maybe 15 active at any given time], ~10 users on the other), occasionally one or two queries open
    • system: iMac7,1 / 2.4 GHz C2D / 4 Go RAM / Snow Leopard 10.6.1

PLEASE fix this. I am going to have to stop using linkinus, which i really, really, really don't want to do, if this doesn't get fixed. This is driving me crazy. Info:

    os x 10.6.1
    linkinus 2.0.2/20624
    logging enabled
    history enabled
    scrollback: 5000 lines
    remain connected when linkinus quits
    growl is disabled
    display alerts in console
    display alerts in current channel
bounce dock repeatedly on new privmsg
    bounce dock on new highlight
    no groups
transfers enabled (i don't use them)
    whisper / default style
    - show timestamps
    - colorize nicknames
    - insert breaks when losing focus
    enable irc colors
    sounds disabled
    tooltips on
    3 highlight words
    only default scripts
    only default plugins enabled
    - allcmd
    - simpleformat
    - sysinfo
    default flood protection

I really, really hope this helps you.

I can confirm I have the exact same problem (freezing for 5-30 seconds at random intervals) with 2.0.2 and Snow Leopard. Shame, because this program looks absolutely stunning and being one of the few programs I've actually paid for, I would very much like it to work...

These random intervals don't occur together with TM backups?

I don't know if this will help, but additionally:

    * I am connected to a single IRC server all day, every day, with 6-8 channels open plus 2-6 private messages at any given time.
    * I just noticed that switching away from Linkinus after having this hang, although I could interact with the app I switched to (Terminal), Linkinus didn't drop focus to the background for a few seconds. Slugglishly.

Oh, also, it looks like Linkinus doesn't come to the foreground until after the hang ends, when switching to the app. That is to say I tab-switch to the app, I get the beach ball and the menu bar shows Linkinus as the active app, but the only Linkinus window I have open doesn't gain focus until the hang stops.

    Well, here's a "me too".

    Linkinus 2.0.2, Snow Leopard 10.6.1

Every once in a while, I switch from another app to Linkinus, type something, and hit enter, and the Linkinus Agent goes nuts for about 5-20 seconds while the beachball of death spins happily.

I've set my scrollback to 500 (I think it may have been 1000 before, but I can't set it that high now, so maybe I imagined it). Also, I have "Enable Logs" checked.

I will post again with more details if this keeps happening.
