I can't seem to find the option to get Linkinus to identify to nickserv on connect.
I have clicked the little "i" in the bottom right and added an authentication password to my name, but that doesn't work.
Can someone give me a little more guidance please.

You have to make sure the network you select to has the right authentification assigned to:
